Apple is using the 3DPrinting technology in its upcoming Apple Watch, but unlike the iPad Air, which relies on traditional 3D printers, the iPhone is using 3DProductions for its newest wearable.
Apple’s iPhone 5 will feature a 3D printed case, case back and display, with 3D prints taking place on an embedded platform, the company announced on Monday.
It uses the 3DS printer to print the case back in titanium, the material used for cases and displays, the firm said.
It is the latest Apple device to feature a third-party 3D printable display.
The company has also introduced a special edition of the Apple TV, which includes a 3DPprinted set of speakers, the same way Apple uses its OLED displays.
The iPhone 5 has a 3,000mAh battery and uses the iPhone’s Lightning port.
The display is also a 3.5D printed design, and features a 12.3-inch Retina display.
